−	~~President Muhammadu Buhari did~~ not ~~receive~~ the ~~letter~~ of ~~complaint~~ by ~~Minister~~ of ~~State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, until after it was leaked~~ to the ~~media on October 3, 2017~~.<br><br><br>In the ~~letter~~, ~~Kachikwu accused Group Managing Director~~ of the ~~Nigeria~~ National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. ~~Maikanti Baru~~, of ~~bypassing procedures~~ in the ~~award~~ of ~~oil contracts without a review by~~ the ~~NNPC board~~.	+	The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has appealed to the Federal Government to settle all outstanding debts to oil marketers.<br><br><br>The union argued that such payment would engender growth of not only the downstream sector, but all sectors of the oil and gas industry and develop the nation’s economy.<br><br><br>It made the call following threats by the marketers to embark on massive retrenchment of their employees if the government failed to settle the over N720 billion subsidy arrears.<br><br><br>The debt, according to the marketers, was the outstanding subsidy owed on the importation of petroleum products, accrued interest on loans from banks and exchange rate differentials, which made them to stop the importation of refined petroleum products leaving only the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to do so.<br><br><br>PENGASSAN said if the government was genuinely interested in the growth of the downstream sector and desires to attract more investments in the sector, which has become almost moribund, then it should pay the debts owed the marketers.<br><br><br>A statement by its National Public Relations Officer, Fortune Obi, said the government should try to verify the authenticity of the oil marketers’ claims and ensure quick settlement of the genuine debts.<br><br><br>"The government should try to separate the genuine claims from spurious ones and pay them because we will not like to be engulfed in the mistakes of the past where briefcase marketers milked the nation through dubious subsidy claims.<br><br><br>"A situation where the workers in the industry suffer from government’s failure to honour its obligations as part of the importation deal, will be unfair and unacceptable to our association. This is against President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s job creation policy.

−	~~Hearing in~~ the ~~civil action on alleged fundamental rights violation brought against the federal government at the Economic Community~~ of ~~West African States (ECOWAS) Court of Justice~~ by ~~the leader~~ of ~~the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)~~, ~~Nnamdi Kanu~~, was ~~yesterday stalled due~~ to the ~~absence of the government lawyer in court.<br><br><br>The lead counsel to the Nigerian government~~, ~~Mr. Dayo Apata, was reportedly having a meeting with the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and subsequently unable to make it to the court session~~.<br><br><br>~~The applicant, Kanu had approached~~ the ~~court through his lawyer~~, ~~Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, with a motion against the Nigerian government on alleged violation of his rights and demanded an order~~ of the ECOWAS Court for compensation of the sum of $800million as damages for the alleged violation.<br><br><br>The matter had been adjourned for hearing of the substantive suit and inclusion of fresh motions by Ejiofor for yesterday, but was further adjourned following the inability of the government counsel to attend the hearing.<br>A counsel representing the Attorney General of the Federation (~~AGF~~) ~~at the court~~, ~~Abdullahi Abubakar asked for stand-down of the case which the court granted to enable government lawyer to be present in court~~.<br>Abubakar’s request was predicated on the grounds that the Nigerian government lawyer was at the Supreme Court for a different matter and asked for a short postponement of the hearing.<br><br><br>Following Abubakar’s application, the case was stood down for two hours.<br>However, when the court resumed session on the matter, Abubakar again approached the court with another request for an adjournment on the ground that the government lawyer, Dayo Apata, who is also the Solicitor-General of ~~the Federation, was having a meeting with the vice president.<br><br><br>Abubakar further told the court that his team had not gotten some of the documents from a previous ruling~~ in the ECOWAS Court.<br>Responding however, Ejiofor accused the Nigerian government of ‘deliberately delaying the matter’.<br>Ejiofor asked the court to compel the respondent to pay a cost of N2million for what he described as deliberate frustration of the matter.<br><br><br>Reacting to the submission of Ejiofor, Abubakar said the previous adjournment on the matter was not at the instance of the government but based on a request from the court.<br>The three-member panel led by Justice Hemeye Mahdmadane consented to the submissions of Abubakar regarding the facts resulting in the last adjournment.<br><br><br>The court also adjourned the matter till November 21, for hearing of all the applications and determination of Ejiofor’s motion for award of cost against the respondents.<br>Reacting to questions from journalists as to the reason for his client’s absence in court, Ejiofor reiterated his earlier stance that ‘only the Nigerian army can speak on Kanu’s current location.<br>"The military and federal government are in a position to tell me where my client is. The results also indicated 33 per cent growth in gross earnings year-on-year to N365 billion from N275 billion in 2016, driven primarily by the strong performance on core revenue lines. To mark the occasion, which is held every October 11, CLAPAI organized a programme dubbed ‘Project Pad a Girl for Free’. The founder of the orphanage home, which is located in Zarazong Village in Jos East Local Government Council Area, said the event, which was a huge success according to her, would have been impossible but for MMM’s financial intervention. Speaking while briefing Newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Dr Isegbe said the yam was not rejected and yam export to US had no issue, except that of the UK which was not cleared by officers of the NAQs. He assured that no matter the logistic challenge experienced by the exporter of yam to the UK,Nigeria is very determined and committed to yam export. −	There was fear and panic Wednesday across the states of the South-East geo-political zone following the commencement of the medical outreach by the army as part of its packages for the Operation Python Dance 11 code-named Egwu Eke.<br><br><br>Daily Sun reliably gathered that the army personnel on the medical outreach had gone to Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State to begin immunization in the schools there when the students and teachers started fleeing the schools.<br><br><br>Quickly, the rumour spread in the state that the personnel on the medical outreach were forcefully injecting the students with Monkey Pox virus, making many parents to rush to schools in the state to withdraw their children and wards.<br><br><br>The rumour also spread to Imo State, Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu states, where parents also made haste to go to the schools to withdraw their children.<br><br><br>In Imo, the rumour which spread like wild fire resulted in the early closure of schools in the state capital and other local governments, especially the private schools as anxious parents rushed to the schools to take their children and wards home.<br><br><br>The rumour in Imo was that two school pupils in one of the schools at Awo Omanma in Oru East Local Government Area had died after the immunization by the soldiers.<br><br><br>Rumours also had it that the immunization was on at schools at Obosima, Umunwaku, Ohoba in Ohaji/ Egbema council, but when our reporter arrived the community no soldier or army personnel was seen, but parents were hurriedly taking away their children from the schools while some of the pupils whose parents were yet to take them home were crying.<br><br><br>At the Victory International School owned by the Assemblies of God Church, one of the teachers who simply identified himself as Chuks said that they have not seen any of the immunization officials or the army as rumoured in their school, saying that the school authorities decided to send the pupils home for safety.<br><br><br>Similarly, at the St. Mary’s School Amaifeke, in Orlu Council of the state, Mrs Ogechi Onumomu disclosed that the school authorities had to take the pupils upstairs for protection following the rumour that soldiers are forcefully immunizing children, saying however, that they did not see any personnel or the army as claimed.<br><br><br>However, the state government in a statement issued by Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, press secretary to Governor Rochas Okorocha, said the rumour that created anxiety in the state was false.<br><br><br>"The Imo State government has heard the unfounded rumour that monkey pox virus is forcefully injected into school kids. I don’t want to hear any story. I am taking them home, it’s better they stay at home alive than being injected to death by evil people who dressed in military uniform to cover their real identity," she said.<br><br><br>At the Township Primary School, a parent who gave his name as Mr. Ben Ezema said he was in the market when one of his family friends called him that he had just rushed to collect his children to avoid being injected to death.<br><br><br>"Immediately I closed my shop before I reached here many parents were already here to take their children to avoid being injected to death.<br><br><br>"I have taken my children and they will stay at home until I am convinced nobody is coming to inject them in school," he said.<br><br><br>Mrs. Cecilia Ugwuoke, a headmistress in Modern Primary School 4, Nsukka, said she was surprised how the school compound was filled with parents within 30 minutes to take home their children because of the rumour that some children have been injected to death in Owerri and Awka and also got into Nsukka town.<br><br><br>"I tried my best to convince them that their children were safe as we will not allow anybody to inject their children, but they insisted they want to take them home.<br><br><br>"We had to open a register in every class so that parents will sign before taking their children; this is to ensure that evil people did not use the opportunity to pick children that are not theirs," she said.<br><br><br>Also some secondary schools like Urban Girls Secondary School and Government’s Technical School Nsukka had their students rushed home as early as 12:30 pm because of the same rumour.<br><br><br>When contacted, the Transition Caretaker Committee Chairman in Nsukka LGA, Chief Ejike Asadu said as result of the rumour and panic he sent out his security men from the local government to the schools to monitor the situation.<br><br><br>"People are only panicking because of the rumour, we have not seen any immunization officer dressed in military uniforms.<br><br><br>"I urge parents and residents to remain calm as the council will not allow anybody to inject any school children forcefully," he said.<br><br><br>However, the Enugu State government through the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Fintan Ekochin, also dismissed the rumour.<br><br><br>"Monkey Pox is a rare disease related closely to the common Chicken Pox.
