At least 200 people were killed in twin bombing attacks in Mogadishu, Somalia on Saturday, according to government officials.<br><br><br>No fewer than 300 others were wounded in the attacks, which officials have called one of the deadliest attacks in the history of Somalia. With hundreds still wounded, officials fear the death toll could rise.<br><br><br>Police said a truck exploded outside the Safari Hotel in the K5 neighborhood, which is populated with government officials, stores, and restaurants. Two hours later, another bomb was detonated in the Medina district.<br><br><br>The New York Times reports that a former Somali internal security minister, Abdirizak Omar Mohamed, said that 237 were killed in the attack, adding that the death toll could rise.<br><br><br>President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed declared three days of mourning and called on Somali citizens to help the victims. The president donated blood on Saturday.

Barely 48 hours after the declaration of a dusk-to-dawn curfew by the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen killed over 27 persons while they were asleep in Nkiedonwhro community, Bassa Local Government Area of the State.


The latest attack was about the third in the LGA since Friday, October 13, when the governor imposed the indefinite dusk-to-dawn curfew.


PUNCH reports that the gunmen stormed the village in the early hours of Monday, shooting indiscriminately.


While one account said 20 persons were killed in a classroom where they ran into for safety, an eyewitness said the villagers were killed in a classroom where they were evacuated to by security operatives.


A resident, who did not want to be quoted, said while some of the people killed had been given a mass burial, those injured were being treated at various hospitals in the Bassa LGA.
