As a child I loved to read nursery rhymes. I believed the stories were simple, fun, and simple to learn. They were one of the first books I discovered to read. Now as a preschool teacher I comprehend the worth of teaching young children these rhymes. It introduces them to rhyming, simple parts of a story such as trigger and impact, characters, setting, and plot. They are also extremely catchy.

Preschool nursery rhymes introduce children to rhyming which is one of the building blocks to reading. If a child learns to rhyme at a young age, they will be able to recognize word households when they start to learn phonics.
