It is no doubt that music production in Kenya has exploded tremendously. Unlike before when there was few production houses in the united states, now there are many production studios and lots of highly talented producers who have come up over time.

In early 90s, the Sell The Best Kenyan Music was a student in a really low point. This is on account of diminishing sales and competition from pirates. Existence of the pirates resulted in like a singer you couldn't buy your money back out of your recorded music. This discouraged a lot of people from recording and as a result just a couple of songs were produced. Within the mid-90s, several factors took place and altered the Kenyan music scene. One of the primary factors that caused modifications will be the take off of economic FM radio stations. As the radio stations emerged, there was clearly sought after for high quality songs. Initially, these radio stations played lots of western music like reggae, raga, hip-hop, dancehall, and American R&B. As people got brought to the western culture, music production studios was required to develop new techniques and tools that could allow them to produce songs which were nearly as good as those manufactured in western countries. To accomplish this, the songs producers was required to employ computers, software, mixing boards and also other tools. Introduction of such tools made music production cheaper as well as the music produced was of high quality. A lot of the music produced at the moment was packaged in cassettes though there was an audio track that's packaged in CDs. As technology developed, multi-track layering took over as tool of the new type of independent producers who have been recording directly to computer computer drives for guitars, drum machines, keyboards and also other synthesized sounds. By the the late 90s, Kenyan music had grown tremendously and new production houses had came out. New singing groups also came up and started singing in styles which are largely inspired with the western culture. To offer a Kenyan touch, the background music producers was required to add Kenyan melody and instrumentation within the music.
