Negative US findings were counted as true negative (TN) if CT scan was negative and the patient had an uneventful course, or FN if the patient had a negative US and positive CT examination or was operated on and felt to have a therapeutic laparotomy. Descriptive Paclitaxel nmr statistics were calculated to summarise the demographics of the study population. All parameters were included in the univariate analysis. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), NPV and accuracy were calculated for each subgroup according to ISS. Data are expressed as mean??SD or as proportions. Proportions were compared with z-test for proportions and statistical significance considered if p?MTMR9 both US and CT scan of the abdomen were included in the study. The study included 2274 men (71%) and 907 women (29%). The mean age was 39??19 years. The most common mechanism of injury was motor vehicle collision (72%) followed by falls (17%) and assaults (12%). The mean ISS was 23??18 (Table 1). There were 121 (4%) patients with FN US examinations and positive Staurosporine CT or surgery. Of these patients, 22 had surgery with positive intra-operative findings. Ninety-nine patients with a positive CT did not undergo surgery. There were 44 patients who had a FP US examination confirmed by a negative CT scan. None of these patients underwent surgery. Demographic data and results of the US examinations according to ISS are presented in Table 1. The mean ISS was 8??4, 20??2 and 41??12 in Groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Group 3 (ISS??25) had 84 FN examinations, only 19 FN were found in Group 1 (ISS 1C14) and 18 in Group 2 (ISS 16C24). There were 27 FP examinations in Group 3, with 9 FP results in Group 1 and 8 in Group 2. Overall sensitivity and specificity were 75% and 98%, respectively, with overall accuracy 95%. The PPV was 88% and NPV was 95% (Table 2). The accuracy of US was 90% in the group of patients with the highest ISS (25) compared with 97% for Groups 1 and 2 (p?
