What Is DIY Smart Saw?

DIY Smart Saw is a downloadable eBook that teaches you how to make a “CNC Machine” or “smart saw” at home for under $500. The guide includes step-by-step instructions and pictures telling you how to make your own saw – including the materials you need to pick up from the store and how to put those materials together.

The guide is targeted towards beginner woodworkers. Even if you’ve never put something together by hand once in your life, you should still be able to figure out how to put together the DIY Smart Saw.

In fact, the creator of the program claims that “you’re not even going to rewind the video” to check if you’re doing it right: the video holds your hand through the entire building process. It’s also accompanied by pictures and text guides that fully explain everything.

Now that you know what you’re paying for, let’s find out what exactly a “smart saw” is.

Who Wrote DIY Smart Saw? DIY Smart Saw was created by a guy named Alex Grayson. Alex claims he works in the car industry as an engineer. He spent his life taking apart stuff in his house to see how it worked – like a toaster, fridge, any anything else he could get his hands on. Eventually, he took up woodworking, which leads us to where we are today.

The sales page and marketing for DIY Smart Saw is filled with pictures of DIY projects. Alex claims he has personally built all of the projects pictured on the page. He talks about how he built a brand new mailbox that his wife loved, for example, and then he posts a picture of that mailbox.

Unfortunately, when you search for many of these images on Google, you’ll find that they’ve previously been posted elsewhere on the internet. Many of the photos come from Reddit’s DIY section, for example, where they’ve been posted by many different users.

The same mailbox Alex claims to have created on his own, for example, can be found on Reddit here, where it was posted by a user name /u/tylergarner.

In other words, Alex appears to have stolen most of the work on his page from other parts of the internet. That’s a problem when you’re trying to convince people you’re an expert woodworker.

When you read the disclaimer on the official DIY Smart Saw website, you’ll learn that Alex Grayson is a pen-name for a content writer hired by Wireless Headphones By Skullcandy Survivopedia.com, which appears to be the original author of the DIY Smart Saw guide.

In any case, it’s suspicious that “Alex” – or whatever the original author’s name may be – didn’t upload his own original images to the site. There are also no pictures of the CNC machine or smart saw in its final form.

Should You Use DIY Smart Saw to Start Building Magnificent Woodworking Creations?

DIY Smart Saw appears to simplify the process of building your own CNC machine: these are complicated pieces of machinery that may take you several days – and several hundred dollars – to build. If you’re not good with your hands, or not good at following instructions, then you could get lost along the way. Some people will find it easier to just buy their own CNC machine for a few thousand dollars.
