If you can give your child a thirst for reading, the whole globe opens to him. We saw it with Joy, who at 6 was reading at a level twice her age. But for Joy, a visual learner, the process had been an easy, practically effortless process. When we tried to use the very same methods with Hope, we found two things: Hope is not a visual learner and we truly had no technique to teach reading! So with Hope we had to start from scratch. We located ourselves bouncing from one technique to an additional, scatterbrained, but as well poor to put out the megabucks required for any of the flashier programs. And as you may well count on, we didn't make a whole lot of progress. Then we stumbled across this guide! What a need to have it met.

Phonics-based, easy to adhere to, inexpensive, nonconsumable, and self-contained, it was all that we had been looking for. There are no workbooks, no flashcards, practically nothing fancy—just you, one-on-one with your child for 20 minutes a day.

Based on the nationally profitable DISTAR plan, this program has been adapted for mother or father and child use, and seems custom-made for the home school setting. Yes, this strategy does use visual clues in the first 80 lessons, but then they drop the clues and your child takes off operating. We have been doubtful at first, but after going by way of it with four youngsters and hearing hundreds of “success” stories, we're believers! Following 100 lessons your child will be reading at a sound 2nd grade level.

My only complaint entails the stories. There is a new story each and every lesson, starting up at lesson 13, and they are also silly for my tastes. But they had been the highlights for all our youngsters, so I will not complain too loudly! Hope, following 50 lessons, was reading smoothly, writing quick “stories,” and on her own picked up and read other "easy" books. She finished the guide before her 5th birthday and effortlessly moved into a 3rd grade reading text. Grace also completed the plan while nonetheless 4, however there have been days that we far more than exceeded the twenty minutes prescribed.
