When you are a homeowner, there are few things that get on your nerves more than pests. Your home can even be damaged by pests like termites. Here are a few steps you can take to eliminate these pests.

Plug holes that pests, like mice, can enter using steel wool. Although rodents can gnaw through a lot of different materials, they are not strong enough to chew the metal strands from steel wool. All openings greater than a 1/2 inch must be stuffed. Rodents can fit through incredibly small openings.

Have a problem with bees, wasps, or hornets in your home? If so, then try spraying them with hairspray. There are chemicals in hairspray that kill insects immediately, but the perfume in the product also keeps other insects away.

Seal any cracks or crevices that you may have in your home right away. Insects, and even small rodents, will use these cracks to get into your home, no matter how small these cracks are. If you close them off, the pests won't be able to get in.

Make sure you rinse out any containers you are recycling. It's especially important to rinse out soda cans, as they have tons of sugar on and in them. Rinse soda cans out before storing them.

Your water system needs to be free of leaks. Water is an attraction for a lot of pests. Even from a distance, these pests can tell there is water pooling in your home. Don't bring on a pest invasion by your inaction. Eliminate your rodent and bug problem within your home.

Check the plumbing in your house, if you have pests. Be certain your drains are clog-free, inside and outside the house. Organic materials inside drains can prove quite hospitable to insects. Get in the habit of checking your drains and inspecting your plumbing on a monthly basis.

When trees fall down in the yard, dispose of them. You can use the trunk and branches for firewood. You can also give it to someone else, or sell it if you want to. Don't just let the stump rot in your yard, though. Stumps can easily attract termites to your home.

Mint can help in your battle against mice. Plant mint all around the perimeter of your house. The unpleasant smell will prevent them from entering your home. If mice are already a problem, you may want to place mint leaves in the areas that are affected. This can repel these pesky pests, but use fresh mint leaves.

If you practice recycling, make sure to rinse out all bottles can cans. It is especially important to rinse items that contain sugar, such as soda cans. When you put your recycle bin outside or in the garage, be sure it's not sticky by rinsing out every container you place in it.

Utilize the methods you've seen here, and start eliminating those pests for good. You should know this
