The most effective way to minimize complications is to know well about maxillary sinus morphology and possible anatomical variations. Sinus width is intimately related to the choice of the sinus augmentation. Too small or too large mediolateral dimension could present a challenging case. However, little information is available concerning the average width of the maxillary sinus. Aim/Hypothesis To measure the distances between the medial and lateral sinus wall at different levels on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and apply those sinus width values to formulate a new sinus classification. Material and methods Five hundred edentulous sites adjacent to maxillary sinuses with inadequate bone height were included from CBCT database from May 2009 to April 2013. The images were taken using a specialized CBCT (3D Accuitomo-XYZ Slice View Adenylyl cyclase Tomograph, ODViewer, Morita Dental Company, Kyoto, Japan) operated at 85?kV and 4.0?mA, with an exposure time of 17.5s.
