Take a Screenshot

Right here are some handy little tools that you can use to capture images and text if you want to be in a position to take a screenshot on a pc. The first one is known as Jing, and it's free! TechSmith | Jing, immediate screenshots and screencasts.

Add visuals to your online conversations. Jing captures anything on you see on your computer screen, as an image or brief video, and lets you share it instantly. You can get a free account now. You can also upgrade, but for what I use it for I do not need the upgrade.

Following you install Jing it will leave a light image of the sun at the top and middle of your desktop. This makes it extremely handy. If you are needing information on your screen, or watching a webinar, all you have to do is hoover over the sun and click and drag to what ever image you want to save. Just drag the cross hairs from the beginning point and drag (as the crow flies) to the opposite end of whatever it is that you are wanting to capture. You can also use arrows to show a specific segment and even highlight text or images. Another handy tool to use is utilizing a box to also frame a specific segment.

Once you have your web page captured you can save and or share it. There is also a library of the images and videos that you have created to be used at a latter date if you wish.

Once I learned how to take a screenshot on a pc with Jing I also found a program called Snagit. It is also a fantastic screen shot software to use Snagit has a 30 day free trial. Just go to techsmith.com and look for Snagit.

This one is good if you need to manipulate copy, say like altering an address, logo or even create new images. Snagit will also take a screenshot on a pc but, only a static image.

I use both.

I use Jing if I require a quick shot off my screen. All I have to do is hit the sun (image), and place the cross hairs exactly where I want it to start and drag to where I want it to end.

I will use Snagit if I am going to create an image or if I need to manipulate it in any way. Because learning how to take a screenshot on a computer with both these tools it has been a breeze teaching and training short segments in my curriculum.
